Mayor Michael Bloomberg approved legislation making it illegal for kids under 21 to carry graffiti instruments in unlocked containers.

The law, authored by City Councilmember Peter F. Vallone Jr., outlaws the possession of graffiti instruments in public places by people under the age 21. Under the new bill, it will be a criminal violation to carry spray paint, broad-tipped markers or etching acid unless it is enclosed in a locked container, or if the tools are needed for educational or professional purposes.

"The truth is that graffiti defaces our beautiful neighborhoods and sends the message that we don't care about our communities. We must make every effort to stop it," Bloomberg said at the signing.

The legislation is based on a bill that Vallone passed in 2005, which was challenged in court by proponents of graffiti. The courts issued an injunction prohibiting the city from enforcing the law, expressing concern that the amendments imposed too heavy a burden on free speech. Wanting to spare taxpayers an expensive legal battle, the city decided to draft a new bill tailored to meet the court's arguments.

"An opponent of this law would have to argue that people under 21 need immediate, unfettered access to graffiti tools at all times. That's simply ridiculous," Vallone said. "Murals take hours, but a tag can be done in seconds. We want to put this crime down before it 'gets up'."

Jimmy Oddo, minority leader of the city council, co-sponsor of the bill and ally in the battle against graffiti, added, "One thing you can say about these graffiti vandals is they are tenacious. We are lucky to have Peter Vallone Jr. to match their tenacity in this fight."

"The mayor and I are like the Frito Lay of anti-graffiti laws," joked Vallone at the signing, referring to the old commercial slogan, "It doesn't matter what they do to them, we'll just keep making more."

domnul din imagine este daniel gontz. da, cu tz. el este artist si protesteaza. spune de ce cel mai bine in propriile cuvinte:

Bulinele albastre semnalizeaza seismul estetic care zguduie orasele romanesti de 15 ani. In acest cataclism intra termopan, rigips, gresie, spatiu rezidual lasat in urma de urbanismul comunist, o puzderie de fatade de sticla, frinturi de cultura vizuala de la televizor, demolari euforice, custi pentru bodyguarzi, plante de plastic, marmura neagra, decoratiuni din inox si idei despre arhitectura care desfid orice norma despre cum traieste si arata un oras.

Mi s-a parut important sa reactionez la uritenia sufocanta a unei bune parti din ce s-a construit in ultimii ani. Bulinele indica pericol, si cred ca pericolul degradarii estetice a orasului e aproape la fel de mare ca cel al unui cutremur.

Bulinele rosii spun ca trebuie sa te feresti, bulinele albastre - ca trebuie sa protestezi.

uitati-va la video. merita. sa vedem cati poseri si fakeri de grafferi sunt in stare sa faca asta. fara ziaristi si cameramani, ca pe noi nu ne intereseaza asta.

Concurs international de graffiti – Write4Gold, la a doua etapa in Romania!

Cel mai popular concurs de graffiti din lume – Write4Gold da startul celei de-a treia editie a festivalului Mountain Dew Urban Fest, sambata 14 iulie in Parcul Herastrau!

Write4Gold este o competitie profesionista de arta graffiti care are drept obiectiv transformarea unui fenomen considerat „vandal”, intr-un curent artistic exponential pentru cultura urbana.
Sambata, de la ora 10, opt echipe formate din 4 pana la 6 grafferi vor fi prezenti in Mountain Dew SkatePark-ul - Herastrau pentru a ilustra noi fete ale culturii urbane.

Write4Gold 2007 include patru probe. Pentru prima proba – concept painting, echipele vor avea la dispozitie aproximativ 8-9 ore si un perete de 15 m lungime si 2 m latime. Participantilor vor primi o tema data de la organizatori, pe care ei o vor ilustra in cel ma scurt timp si in propria interpretare.
Cea de-a doua categorie - action throwups va dura doar 2 minute. Un participant din fiecare echipa va avea de scris un cuvant dat de juriu pe loc, cu doua culori alese de el. Pentru cea de-a treia etapa a competitiei – un membru va trebui sa faca o schita in aproximativ o ora, folosindu-se de markere speciale. In ultima parte a concursului, cea de tagging, un concurent din fiecare echipa va trebui sa faca aceeasi semnatura impusa de organizatori, cu ajutorul unui marker sau a unui spray.

Write4Gold va beneficia de un juriu international, cu nume sonore ale graffiti-ului la nivel mondial. Pe baza punctajului obtinut la fiecare proba, se va calcula un punctaj final, astfel hotarandu-se echipa invingatoare, care concureaza pentru premii de peste 2500 euro.

Write4Gold da astfel startul festivalului Mountain Dew Urban Fest ’07, primul festival din Romania care celebreaza cultura urbana, ajuns la cea de-a treia editie anul acesta.
Urban Fest '07 reuneste sub un concept umbrela o serie de evenimente adresate comunitatii urbane din Romania: 14 iulie – Write4Gold - concurs international de graffiti, 22 august – Trick Masters Skate si 15 Septembrie – Trick Masters Roller blades; Aggressive In-Line Qualifiers.

Shinkansen N700 e noul tip de tren lansat zilele trecute in tokio, avand o viteza max de 340 kmh si costand 2,1 mld $$$ numai proiectarea sa. si toate astea pt a taia inca 5 minute din calatoria intre doua metropole japoneze. japonezii spun ca este cel mai rapid tren, desi as putea jura ca francezii se laudau ca tgv-ul a atins vreo 500kmh. am pus doar un video de pe youtube, restul de cateva zeci le gasiti in lista astuia.

Other spune ca este “un nomad nascut in Canada”, care face parte din marea familie a street art-ului mondial. A inceput sa faca graffiti in anii ’90, in contextul miscarii graffiti “hiphop” din America de Nord. Cu timpul si-a definit practica, desenand pe trenuri de marfa forme hibride de graffiti si “hobo art” - desene pe care calatorii si muncitorii le faceau pe trenuri inca din 1850. In timp ce lucrarile sale calatoresc pe sine din Canada pana in Mexic, artistul “merge din tara in tara si lasa mici parti din el in toata lumea - urme de aerosol, vopsea acrilica, markere si chiar creta… orice lasa urme…”

Saddo a terminat grafica la Facultatea de arte din Cluj insa numai dupa ce a terminat studiile a redescoperit “bucuria de a desena exact ce am eu chef ca si atunci cand eram copil, la Sovata si imi petreceam toata ziua desenand intr-un caiet”. Saddo deseneaza monstri, “monstri urati, cateodata monstri dragutzi si colorati, depinde”. Lui Saddo ii place mai mult decat orice sa deseneze – “mi-ar placea cel mai mult din lume sa pot sa desenez doar, sa nu mai fiu nevoit sa fac alte chestii. Si imi place sa desenez impreuna cu alti oameni”. A si facut-o cu mai multe ocazii impreuna cu colectivul The Playground din Cluj si in ultima vreme cu Other care pentru Saddo este “unul din artistii mei preferati, inca dinainte sa il cunosc”.

Seven young men were indicted for painting graffiti around Lubbock, and the code enforcement manager says in his ten years with the city, this is the first time he`s seen a graffiti case go this far.We didn`t have to go far to find the vandalism. Just right next door to the KLBK station some local “artists” made their mark on an abandoned building. And with summertime just around the corner and kids getting out of school, we could be seeing a lot more.

“They got their information off My Space personal websites, and ID’d them right there” says Code Administration supervisor, Stuart Walker.

Congruencies in their work and giveaways on their My Space pages, that’s how police caught the seven vandals. Police had been trailing them for nearly two years and cleaning up their work was no easy task. The vandals may have used just a few dollars of spray paint but it cost the city big bucks. So much that they have a full time employee dedicated to finding graffiti and cleaning it up.

“We budget $45,000 for graffiti removal” says Walker.

That includes a full time employee who responds to complaints, and all the supplies to clean up the mess. But there are other ways to keep Lubbock clean and it doesn’t cost a thing.

“Keeping them active involved if their spray painting somebody’s fence” says Walker.

In 2005, there were 1,500 cases of graffiti and that doubled in 2006. They say this year it’s gone up and down, but it depends largely on the weather. Not a whole lot of people want to go out and graffiti if it’s raining or snowing.

in caz ca nu stiati, anul trecut a fost arestat in ny un graffer pe nume kiko. amaratul a atras atentia dupa ce a tagat tot ce a putut intr-o anumita zona a orasului si vallone, inamicul nr 1 al scenei graf din ny, s-a hotarat sa il dea exemplu. asa ca a facut tot posibilul sa il gaseasca si sa il crucifice in ziare si la teve. a mers atat de departe incat, dupa ce judecatorul i-a aplicat o pedeapsa de 6 luni puscarie, 5 ani sub observatie si o amenda de 25000$, sa ceara pt el puscarie intre 1 si 3 ani. ce e si mai grav e ca s-a stabilit acum un precedent, kiko fiind primul graffer condamnat pt acte de vandalism si chiar sa faca puscarie, in locul muncii in folosul comunitatii.

Fanatical anti-graffiti critic and name recognition councilman Peter Vallone Jr., who once proclaimed, “I want this punk, and I want him bad… Catching this guy has been a personal vendetta of mine for a few months now" is credited with supporting some of NYC's harshest graffiti laws ever, some of which were recently struck down as unconstitutional. He has used this issue as his personal soapbox for the past year or so, totally generating more press for himself than anything else he’s done. Although we do think KIKO should be punished in some form or another, specifically public service, we don’t think that any graffiti writer should ever have to serve jail time. In the long run this hurts the community more than any tag could. If anybody wants to do any peaceful ~~renovations~~ demonstrations, we suggest they travel to the belly of the beast.
